Virginia Tech killer sends video to NBC, watch it on MySpace

I just spotted this on Mashable!. Cho Seung-Hui, the Virginia Tech killer, filmed himself between the two shootings and emailed it to NBC and now it’s on MySpace video. Keep an eye on the YouTube results, I expect it will get in there too.

I think Pete Cashmore’s (the writer of the Mashable! article) objection to the levels of transparency we’re seeing with social and digital media is a knee-jerk reaction and don’t think it should be taken seriously. The simple truth about the relationship between the media and society is that the media constitute and are constituted by culture. Consequently, drawing on an ideal where media and society don’t seem to be intertwined in this type of sick determinism is just that, idealism.

As I said about the Kathy Sierra and blog code of conduct business, we’re starting to see society for what it really is. If you don’t like it then join a religious group and start praying for salvation.
