Tracking incoming links has long been Technorati’s strongest point, and they do this very very well. The core of their authority rankings is based on the assumption that if someone links to you it is a type of vote of confidence that is worthy of being rewarded with additional trust.
As of this evening Amatomu tracks which other registered blogs link to your blogs, meaning that we can add the link authority into our mix of metrics used to determine the uber blog chart – the composite chart made by weighting page impressions, user sessions, shmaaks and inbound links. This chart doesn’t yet exist, but then again, neither does the beta version of Amatomu LOL.
We have been real lurkers with this feature. We’ve been playing with it since the first week after we found ourselves launched, trying it from different angles and generally neglecting our day jobs. Anyway, it has reached a level now where we need to start testing it with real humans – that’s you, so we can iron out some ofn the finer issues.
You can see your incoming links in the right column of each blog’s stats page, and you’ll see nothing there if we haven’t found any links or your RSS feed doesn’t validate properly. Speaking of which, I have had a few queries about why a feed won’t validate. Unfortunately I have a 4-day-old baby demanding most of my attention right now, so replying to emails has been a little difficult, especially if it involved thinking.
Anyway, let me know what you think and expect us to start using this information a lot more once we’ve swatted some bugs.
