I couldn’t help but think there is something very base about the animated Coca Cola advertisement on air on SABC1 during the soccer. In the ad a soccer game makes a mouse shaved like Jemma Jameson hug the researcher with the scalpel, a chopped-through tree hug a woodcutter, a naked chicken hugs the grill-order chef and a fat and unloved husband hug the hairy fellow his wife is hiding in their closet.
Soccer the opiate. Its clearly an ad targeted at adults, saying forget the problems of this world because those you oppress also enjoy soccer and won’t hold the destruction of the planet against you. The bleak fact remains, the wounded of our current economic system probably should not be harmonised by sport if they ever plan to rise up, but probably can’t help themselves.
